Find yourself face to face with great white sharks as you take the plunge in submersible deep dive cages. Divers at Monad Shoal, Malapascua get up at 4am just to make a dive. Why bother? Well, this is so that dive boats are able to reach the dive spot at dawn, just when the thresher sharks begin to emerge from the depths for cleaning by tiny cleaning fish. The smaller fish help rid the parasites off the body of thresher sharks. It’s important to keep silent and not startle the sharks, as thresher Sharks are known to be timid and shy. Cold currents and warmer tropical waters collide to form a prime habitat for large biodiversity. Certain species call these waters home all year round, while others are migratory species. Pick from either a diving or snorkelling trip, and be guaranteed to spot reef or hammerhead sharks no matter your choice. Most hammerheads are found in large groups, sometimes up to 300 in one school. As they swim overhead, they cast a spectacular shadow similar to a solar eclipse. To get the full experience, book a liveaboard for a week to get to more remote dive spots.
