Opened to the public on 24 May 1982, Ang Mo Kio Swimming Complex to cater to the developing estate. Prior to its opening, residents had to travel to Toa Payoh Swimming Complex to swim.
Located conveniently right beside the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park and Teck Ghee Court Food Centre, the Ang Mo Kio Swimming Complex is a good place to visit for a day of exercise.
The complex sports multiple interesting design elements as well, from tetrahedral shapes scattered around the swimming complex, to steep church-like roofs that lined the walkway. In fact, this swimming complex won the Singapore Institute of Architects’ Architectural Design Award in 1986.
However, the facility will be upgraded soon. According to the Vision 2030 Facilities Master plan released by Sports Singapore, Ang Mo Kio Swimming Complex is scheduled for a redevelopment into a Wet Play Field including modern wet features such as adventure sports pool with a floating playground.
