Accident Survival Swimming Lessons

The Accident Survival Swimming program is a one-of-a-kind program designed by our Co-Founder Coach Ray. Drawing from his military experience in the Naval Diving Unit, Ray has formulated a syllabus that focuses on techniques that emphasize on

“How To Survive In A Water Accident”.

When one thinks about swimming, the first thing that comes to mind is learning the 4 basic strokes. What many neglect is how these strokes (and additional skills) can be applied in a potential accident. This should be the utmost importance of anyone learning how to swim, and the basis of why everyone needs to learn how to swim.

An accident could take a life in a matter of seconds, and being mentally ready with the right skills to survive in such a situation should be prioritized as the utmost importance.

The potential mishaps that can occur in the water is as follow

  • Loss of Limb Mobility
  • Panic Attack
  • Sudden/Shock Entry into Water Bodies
  • Equipment Malfunction (etc, googles lost)
  • Hypothermia
  • Injured by foreign objects or animals
  • Sudden cuts and open wounds
  • Lost of vision
  • Onslaught of Waves and Currents
  • Stranded for long hours in sea
  • Distressed or unconscious peer swimmer

Accident Survival Swimming Course Background

The Naval Diving Unit (NDU) is a special operations unit in the Singapore Armed Forces Navy.

Trainees are taught to operate in stressful water conditions to carry our operations. Techniques are acquired that enables them to rescue themselves and others out of potential mishaps.

Our Co-Founder, Coach Ray, served his National Service in the NDU. Using the skills he had learnt in the Combat Diver Course (NDU Singapore), he has managed to establish a syllabus that can be imparted to the layman and general public.

Of course, it would not be at the level of rigor as in the NDU, but the fundamental skills and cues would be imparted, and would be enough for one to survive in any accidents.

The techniques you will learn from the course :

  • Anti-panic skills
  • Drown proofing
  • Survival Backstroke and Sidestroke
  • Underwater somersaults
  • Picking up objects while limbs are impaired underwater
  • Swim strokes while limbs are impaired
  • Energy conservation swim
  • Situation assessment and planning
  • Swimming amidst predators
  • Clearing goggles and masks of water
  • Dealing with eye problems such as foggy vision
  • Tread water
  • Open Water Swimming (Survival)

Medical aspects of survival we are covering :
