Syllabus for Private Swimming Lessons

SwimRay Aquatic Roadmap

The Swimray Aquatic Roadmap was uniquely created by the founder, Ray. It aims to provide an objective-based and quantifiable training program for all swimmers. When one signs up for our private swimming lessons, he or she can expect to progress through different stages and ultimately master all genres of swimming skills altogether.

This roadmap would pave the way for our swimmers to be comprehensively taught a full unique swimming syllabus that stretches to so much more than just the basic learn-to-swim.

The specialties of Ray (ex-military combat diver in the Naval Diving Unit) and his experiences in open water swimming, the Swimray Aquatic Roadmap is a one-of-a-kind syllabus that one can expect only from Swimray.

Each stage of training is broken down into numerous segments by itself, which would be illustrated later in the page. Inside each segment by itself, there would be numerous skills the swimmer would have to pick up before progressing on to the next segment/stage.

The training program quantifies the progression of each swimmer, and more importantly, it allows our swimmers to learn a wider range of skills other than just learning to swim the 4 strokes.

Continuously fine-tuned through our private swimming lessons conducted with more than 5000 (and counting) students, our swimmers would find themselves equipped with a full variety of skills in the water.

Assessment Stage

Upon signing up for our one-off trial class, our private swim coach would assess the stage the swimmer is at. This is done by getting the swimmer to demonstrate certain skills in the water.

If the swimmer is water-phobic, careful care is taken to psychologically evaluate the necessary skills to start the swimmer. On the other hand, a confident swimmer who may presume that he/she is already in a certain stage, may not be assessed as so.

This is because our coach would require each swimmer to be able to confidently perform all the skills in each stage before progressing to the next stage.

Post-trial class, our private swim coach would then formulate the appropriate training plan for short, mid, and long-term skills and objectives to meet in each stage.

This enables each lesson to be carefully crafted and personalized according to differing individuals.

Stage 1: Swimsafer Component

This is the stage where a swimmer would spend the majority of his/her time in. This stage includes the basic fundamental building blocks of swimming, and care is taken to ensure no swimmer is rushed.

The Swimsafer syllabus is a nationwide syllabus that aims to ensure every citizen has basic knowledge in every genre of swimming stroke.

Every primary school child would also be required to pass at least stage 1 or 2 before they are exempted from swimming lessons in their primary school.

Every private swimming lesson is given the 1-1 attention it deserves, to ensure all the skills in each of the below segments are learnt before progression. These skills include the following

Again, it is important to note that the majority of time is spent in building Water Confidence and Learn-to-Swim for complete beginners.

With the basic skills necessary for a swimmer to enjoy his or her time in the water, they are then pushed on to learn the strokes required in the Swimsafer syllabus.

Stage 2: Accident Survivor

Swimming is a skill that many thought that once learnt, will be useful for water survival.

We beg to differ. Swimming in a controlled environment with your swim coach, or in a condo or public swimming pool, etc, is completely different from surviving in uncontrolled situations, for example, an accident. This can be seen in the differences below

Hence, drawing from Coach Ray's experience in the Combat Diver Course in the Naval Diving Unit, Swimray has formulated a one-of-its-kind Accident Survival Swimming Lessons for everyone and anyone.

The main idea we try to translate here is to ensure our students are able to swim in ANY given situation and ensure they survive in any water accidents.

Stage 3: Stroke Expert

After progressing from learning the basic strokes and how to survive in any situation, the focus would be redirected to the swimmer’s stroke correction. The idea is to increase efficiency and competency in each stroke.

This means pushing them to swim perfectly, increasing their speed and energy-efficiency output per stroke.

Care would be taken in this segment to ensure every detail of each stroke is being corrected and perfected.

It is also during this phase that we would start to introduce fundamental competitive drills to track progress in their stroke efficiency.

Video-taking and video-analysis would also be introduced, to allow swimmers to delve deeper into the intrinsic details of stroke progress.

Stage 4: Swim Racer

After perfecting one’s strokes, the next phase would be to elevate the swimmer to a competitive level. This is where the swimmer would undergo drills that would push them to the limit (very good cardiovascular workout!).

Techniques and coaching would be focused on speed elevation in the pool.

Swimmers would be drilled with timed swims, body-part-specific workouts, and sets of personalized programs catered to push them faster.

Techniques such as competitive jumps, flip-turn and various wall turns would be taught, all in a bid to increase swim time.

Speed is the name of the game here.

Stage 5: Open Water Navigator

The final stage of our journey would conclude in our swimmer being introduced to the techniques of Open Water Swimming.

During this phase, the swimmer would expect to be introduced to a whole new element and world of swimming in the open sea. With the beautiful beaches and nature as the background of your workout, one could expect to experience a whole new set of challenges and experiences.

Conclusion

Signing up with Swimray’s Private Swimming Lessons would ensure one could experience a wholesome swimming journey. From the basic fundamentals to the most highly advanced skills, one could expect to be challenged and be actively engaged throughout their journey with us.

SMART Swimming Lessons

Specific. Measurable. Achievable. Relevant. Time-Bound

Unlike adults, children are cognitively not as competent to pick up ques from instructors. As such, many a times, they are also not able to tell whether their instructor is a teacher who actually teaches, or just a fun teacher who is playing with him or her.

That is why at SwimRay, we ensure our lessons are quantifiable to allow our parents to track their children's tangible development whilst they learn to swim. They may be at the stage of picking up water confidence, or learning swimming strokes, or picking up water survival skills, but whatever it is, the parents would be able to see where they are at and know what they are paying for.

Specific

Skill based learning and specific instructions used by instructor to help learners improve fast

Measurable

Using a mixed of measurements such as distance, timing, and speed to track our clients' progress

Achievable

We always make sure the goal we set for each swimming lesson is within reach and realistic for our learners.

Relevant

The goal that we plan with clients prior to the swimming lessons are applicable and are designed for each individual.

Time-bound

Realistic swimming goal that fall within a reasonable time-frame.
