1. Angel Shark

These beautiful creatures resemble rays with their flat and wide bodies. Ranging up to a length of 2.5 metres, angel sharks can be often found on the sandy bottom of the ocean. They live in tropical and warm oceans on the continental shelves around the world. Their diet consists of fishes and bottom dwelling invertebrates as their shape and body patterns enables them to camouflage among the mud and sand. However, more than half of these sharks are in the midst of being endangered or critically endangered.

2. Horn Shark

Laying 8-12 metres deep in the ocean, Horn sharks can be found living in the Eastern Pacific region. They get their names from having a short, blunt head accompanied with high ridges just right above their eyes. Horn sharks are approximately 97-120cm in size and distinguished by their brown coloured bodies with black spots, and yellowish underbellies. Furthermore, they have a rather short lifespan of 12 years and their diet consists of staples such as sea urchins, mollusks, as well as small fishes. Fun fact, these sharks have two large spines on their backs!

3. Basking Shark

Despite being known to be the second largest fish and it’s threatening appearance, these creatures are not aggressive at all. In fact, they are actually harmless towards humans. Found in temperate oceans, Basking Sharks can often be spotted nearer to land such as bays. Furthermore, they are 6-8 metres in length and can live up to 50 years. The Basking Shark has a crescent-shaped tail and conical snout. However, their most magnificent feature is definitely their mouth as it is over 1 metre in width.

4. Saw Shark

These sharks resemble rays and have a long, slender snout. Growing up to only 1.37 metres in length, they are rather small and harmless. Saw Sharks are carnivores and they feed on fish by piercing and cutting their prey with their blade like snout. Furthermore, they can be found in tropical marine waters near the Western Atlantic Ocean. Fun fact - some saw sharks prefer to hunt in schools while others prefer to hunt in solitude.

5. Wobbegong Shark

With their yellow-green body covered in polka-dot-like patterns, these astonishing sharks reach a length of 3.2 metres. Not only is their name unique, but they are unique in appearance as well with hanging tassels around their head and body. Due to its pattern and colour, the Wobbegong Shark can camouflage easily among the reefs. You can usually find them near the eastern Indian Ocean feeding at night.

6. Nurse Shark

The origin of the name of these sharks are still unknown, however it is said to be derived from the sucking sound made by them when hunting for their prey - which resembles nursing a baby. Nurse Sharks are slow-moving creatures but have immensely strong jaws that are used to crush and consume shellfish and corals. They can be found lying in the shallow waters near The Western Atlantic and the Eastern Pacific Oceans.

7. Goblin Shark

Goblin Sharks have narrow snouts and fang-like teeth. They can often be spotted near the coast of Japan and grow up to 3.7 meters. They thrive under deep water but they have sluggish characteristics, making them a slow-moving creature. Furthermore, their diet consists of crabs and squid and fun fact, Goblin Sharks are actually named after a Japanese demon!

8. Frilled Shark

Frilled Sharks are known for their lizard-like structure and the way they prey. These creatures are active predators and they feed by lunging at their potential prey and swallowing them without chewing. Furthermore, their teeth are constructed in a way that all 25 rows are lined with trident-shaped teeth, totalling to 300. The Frilled Shark lives all over the world, however it is rare to spot one as they reside deep in the sea.
